Bitrate for a 720p Stream

The bitrate to use for a 720p stream, how it depends on your upload speed, and how to set it in Streamdzy with the calculator.

The short answer

A 720p stream usually runs well at 3 to 4.5 Mbps on most platforms. Keep about 30 percent of your upload free for the rest of your connection.

How to do it in Streamdzy

  1. Add each platform once under Settings, Go live and paste its stream key. The key is kept encrypted on your PC.
  2. Tick the places you want on and press Go live. Your PC encodes the show once and sends it to each one.
  3. Watch the scene, the chat and the connection in one window. Press a scene or an alert whenever you need it.
  4. Press Stop when you are done. The recording of the whole show is already saved on your PC.

What to know first

Your upload speed is the real limit: every place needs its own copy of your picture. The installer is for Windows; Mac and Linux builds are not published yet. Run the upload speed test before a long show.

Questions

What bitrate should I choose for 720p?

Start near 3,000 to 4,500 kbps and lower it if you see dropped frames. The bitrate calculator gives a number for your upload speed.
