Upload speed test for streaming
Streaming depends on upload speed, not download. Measure yours in about 15 seconds and get settings that fit it.
What you need to stream
- 720p: at least 4 Mbps of upload
- 1080p30: at least 7–8 Mbps
- 1080p60: at least 10–12 Mbps
- Several platforms: multiply by the number of platforms (or use a relay)
If your upload is low
- Use a network cable instead of Wi-Fi.
- Pause other uploads and cloud backups.
- Lower the resolution before the frame rate.
- Use Streamdzy’s automatic bitrate, which steps down instead of freezing.
Questions
Why is my upload slower than my download?
Most home internet is built for downloading. Upload is often a tenth of download.
Is the result exact?
It is a good guide measured against Cloudflare’s servers from your browser. Test again at the time you stream.
