Microphone test
A live level meter, a background-noise check, and a check on your voice level, with a short recording to listen back. Nothing leaves your device.
-level now-loudest peak
How to read the result
- Background noise below −50 dB is quiet. Above −40 dB you will hear fans, hum or a busy room.
- Voice peak between −18 and −6 dB is a healthy level. Above −1 dB is clipping (distortion). Below −18 dB is too quiet.
- Your voice should be at least 25 dB louder than the background.
Fixes that work
- Get closer to the microphone (a hand’s width away).
- Turn the gain down if you clip, up if you are too quiet.
- Switch off fans and close windows, or use a noise filter. Streamdzy has one built in, and Tunedzy goes much further.
Questions
Does the test record my voice?
Only the 5-second sample you ask for, and only in this tab. Nothing is uploaded.
Why does the test turn off noise suppression?
To measure your real microphone. Your calls and streams may use filters on top.
