How to record a Zoom, Teams or Meet call for free

Most call tools can record, but often only for the host or on a paid plan. Here are the built-in routes and one that works whatever the plan.

1. Ask first, and say you are recording

Tell everyone before you record. In many places you must have their agreement, and most call tools show a notice when recording starts. If you are not the host, ask the host to start the recording or to allow you to.

2. The call tool’s own recording

  • Zoom: the host can record to the computer, and can allow others to. Local recording is available on free accounts; recording to the cloud usually needs a paid plan.
  • Microsoft Teams and Google Meet: recording is often limited to certain paid or work plans and is set by an administrator.

If the button is missing, your plan or your administrator’s settings are the usual reason.

3. Record it yourself, with any tool

Open the free online screen recorder, press start and choose the call window or the browser tab. Tick the option to share sound if your browser offers it (it works best for a tab in Chrome or Edge). Allow your microphone so your own voice is recorded too. Stop when the call ends and save the file.

4. A better recording with Streamdzy

For something you will publish, the app gives you more: record the call window and your own camera on their own tracks, put a name bar on, keep the file crash-safe, and stream the call live while you record. Download Streamdzy, add the call as a window capture, press Record.

Tips for a clear recording

  • Use headphones so the other side does not leak into your microphone.
  • Close notifications before you share your screen.
  • Test a ten-second recording and listen before the real call.

Questions

Can I record a call if I am not the host?

You can record what is on your own screen and what you hear, but you should still get the host’s and the others’ agreement first.

Does the online recorder have a time limit?

No limit and no watermark. Long recordings need free space on your computer.
