Keyframe Interval for Streaming Explained
What the keyframe interval means for a stream, the usual setting of two seconds, and where to check what each platform wants.
The short answer
A keyframe is a full picture the stream sends regularly. Most platforms ask for one about every two seconds, and each one states its own value in its guidance, so check it there before you go live.
How to do it in Streamdzy
- Add each platform once under Settings, Go live and paste its stream key. The key is kept encrypted on your PC.
- Tick the places you want on and press Go live. Your PC encodes the show once and sends it to each one.
- Watch the scene, the chat and the connection in one window. Press a scene or an alert whenever you need it.
- Press Stop when you are done. The recording of the whole show is already saved on your PC.
What to know first
Your upload speed is the real limit: every place needs its own copy of your picture. The installer is for Windows; Mac and Linux builds are not published yet. Run the upload speed test before a long show.
Questions
Do I need to set the keyframe interval?
Check the platform’s guidance, which states the value it wants, and follow it.
Want all of this in one app?
Streamdzy is a free streaming and recording app for Windows: several cameras, your phone as a camera, going live to many places at once, and recording first so a bad connection never costs you the show.
