Check Your Upload Speed Before You Go Live

Test your upload speed before a stream with a free check, and see what picture quality your connection can keep for each place you stream to.

The short answer

Run the upload speed test and it measures your upload, download, delay and jitter. Use the result with the bitrate calculator to choose the picture quality for each place.

How to do it in Streamdzy

  1. Add each platform once under Settings, Go live and paste its stream key. The key is kept encrypted on your PC.
  2. Tick the places you want on and press Go live. Your PC encodes the show once and sends it to each one.
  3. Watch the scene, the chat and the connection in one window. Press a scene or an alert whenever you need it.
  4. Press Stop when you are done. The recording of the whole show is already saved on your PC.

What to know first

Your upload speed is the real limit: every place needs its own copy of your picture. The installer is for Windows; Mac and Linux builds are not published yet. Run the upload speed test before a long show.

Questions

How much upload speed do I need to stream?

For 1080p at 60 frames a second, most platforms suggest about 6 Mbps of upload per place. Send to several places and each one adds its own copy.

Want all of this in one app?

Streamdzy is a free streaming and recording app for Windows: several cameras, your phone as a camera, going live to many places at once, and recording first so a bad connection never costs you the show.
