Latency vs Delay in Streaming

Latency and delay are used for the same thing in many places. Here is how they differ in a live show and what to do about each.

The short answer

Latency is the time for a picture to reach viewers. Delay is the time you choose to add, such as with record first. Platforms add latency, and record first adds delay on purpose.

How to do it in Streamdzy

  1. Read the definition, then find the same word in Streamdzy: under Settings, in the scene, or on the Go live screen.
  2. Try it in a short test recording or a private stream, so the word means something you have seen.
  3. Read the feature page for it to see the settings, then set it up for your show.
  4. Check the pricing page for how use is counted. Every feature is free.

What to know first

Definitions are general; platforms and tools set their own limits and names, so check each platform’s guidance when a number matters to your show.

Questions

Which one can I change?

Choose the live mode to cut delay, and record first to add it on purpose.
