How to record gameplay without lag

Recording competes with the game for your graphics card and your drive. These settings keep both happy.

Use the hardware encoder

NVIDIA NVENC, Intel QuickSync and AMD encoders do the video work on dedicated hardware. Streamdzy picks one when it finds it. Software encoding uses your processor, which the game also needs.

Record to a fast drive with room

An hour of 1080p takes several gigabytes. Record to an SSD, not the drive that is nearly full. Streamdzy checks free space before it starts.

Match resolution to your PC

If the game struggles, record at 1080p30 or 720p60 rather than 4K. Test what your PC can do with the PC stream test.

Keep a safe copy

Streamdzy writes the recording in segments, so a crash costs seconds, not the session, and it offers to recover on the next start.

Record and stream at once

Recording while you stream costs a little more. Keep the recording at the same picture size as the stream if your PC is close to its limit.

Questions

Why does my game stutter when I record?

Usually the encoder or the drive is the bottleneck. Switch to the hardware encoder and a faster drive.

Does Streamdzy capture exclusive fullscreen games?

Games capture works for most games; if one shows black, run it in borderless windowed mode.

Want all of this in one app?

Streamdzy is a free streaming and recording app for Windows: several cameras, your phone as a camera, going live to many places at once, and recording first so a bad connection never costs you the show.
