How to go live on Instagram from a PC

Instagram’s Live Producer gives you a server address and a key so a PC app can broadcast instead of the phone camera.

1. Check that Live Producer is available

Live Producer has been rolled out in stages and has needed a professional (creator or business) account. On a computer open Instagram in the browser and use Create, Live. If you see a server URL and stream key on the set-up screen, you have it. If you do not, your account does not yet.

2. Copy the URL and the key

Give the live video a title and audience, then copy the server URL and stream key. The key is for one session: set up again each time you go live.

3. Add it to your app

In Streamdzy open Settings, Go live, pick Other (any RTMP server), paste the URL and key and save.

4. A vertical picture

Instagram recommends a vertical 9:16 picture. In Streamdzy choose Vertical (1080 × 1920) or Vertical Light (720 × 1280) before going live.

5. Go live

Press Go live in the app, check the preview on Instagram, then press its own start button. Press Record as well to keep a full-quality copy. Instagram may end long sessions, so plan around one-hour pieces.

Questions

Why does the key keep changing?

Instagram issues one per live video, so copy it every time.

Can I use my phone as the camera?

Yes. Connect your phone to Streamdzy as a camera and send the show to Instagram from the PC. See phone as a camera.

Want all of this in one app?

Streamdzy is a free streaming and recording app for Windows: several cameras, your phone as a camera, going live to many places at once, and recording first so a bad connection never costs you the show.
