How to record a video podcast
A video podcast is an audio podcast with a camera pointed at it. The extra work is mostly choosing angles, and keeping every voice on its own track.
1. Microphones
Give each person their own microphone and place it a hand’s width from the mouth. Check each with the microphone test. For advanced voice cleaning, Tunedzy pairs with Streamdzy.
2. Cameras
Two cameras are the sweet spot: one wide shot of the table and one on the speaker, or one per person. Phones work. In Streamdzy add each camera and name it; the app records every camera on its own as well as the finished show, so you can re-cut later.
3. Record, and stream if you like
Press Record and the show is saved in full quality and crash-safe. You can go live at the same time to YouTube or others for a live audience, then publish the cleaned-up recording afterwards.
4. Clips
Press the clip shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+F9) after a good moment to save the last 30 seconds, or mark moments while you record and find them afterwards in the recording’s list.
5. Remote guests
For a guest who is far away, use a call tool and add that window to your scene. Record their sound on its own track if the tool allows it.
Questions
Do I need a mixer?
No. USB microphones go straight into the computer. A mixer helps with three or more people on XLR microphones.
How big are the files?
It depends on the quality you record at: an hour of 1080p video is typically a few gigabytes, and each extra camera that is saved on its own adds a file. The data calculator gives a rough size from a bitrate.
Want all of this in one app?
Streamdzy is a free streaming and recording app for Windows: several cameras, your phone as a camera, going live to many places at once, and recording first so a bad connection never costs you the show.
