How to live stream on YouTube from a PC

YouTube takes streams from any app that can send RTMP. Here is how to get your key, set it up and go live.

1. Turn on live streaming

In YouTube Studio choose Create, Go live. New channels may need to verify with a phone number, and it can take up to 24 hours before live streaming is enabled.

2. Find the stream key

In the live control room choose the Stream tab and copy the Stream key. Keep it private.

3. Add YouTube to your app

In Streamdzy, Settings, Go live, pick YouTube, paste the key, save. The address is filled in.

4. Pick your quality

YouTube accepts high bitrates: about 4,500 to 9,000 kbps for 1080p and 13,000 kbps and up for 4K. Use the bitrate calculator, and keep 30% of your upload spare.

5. Go live

Press Go live in the app, wait for the preview to turn green in YouTube Studio, then press Go live there. YouTube shows your stream a few seconds behind; a higher latency setting in Studio gives better quality on weak connections.

Questions

Why is my YouTube stream delayed?

YouTube adds delay by design (normal, low or ultra-low latency settings in Studio). Streamdzy’s Record first adds a deliberate delay on top for protection.

Can I stream a game and a camera?

Yes: add the game capture and the camera as layers in one scene.

Want all of this in one app?

Streamdzy is a free streaming and recording app for Windows: several cameras, your phone as a camera, going live to many places at once, and recording first so a bad connection never costs you the show.
