How to add a director to your live stream

Running the show and performing at once is hard. A director takes the buttons so you can focus on the audience. Here is a safe way to set that up.

What a director should and should not do

A director cuts cameras, switches scenes, triggers effects and replays, and puts text on screen. They should not be able to go live, end the stream, or see your stream keys. Streamdzy’s Director role is exactly that, and your PC refuses anything outside the role.

Set it up

  1. Press Connect, then Add a helper, and choose Director.
  2. The helper scans the code with their phone or tablet. They are signed in without an account.
  3. For someone in another place, they open fuidzy.com/stream-design and type the code.

Camera operators and a monitor

Give each camera phone a camera-only role: they control their own camera and see a red frame when it is on air. A monitor role sees everything and changes nothing, good for a moderator or a client.

Talk to each other

Use text talkback: “Stand by”, “Go”, “Zoom in”, “Hold still”. Messages go to the directors, all cameras, everyone or one numbered camera. They arrive with a buzz.

Agree on a few words first

Before the show, decide the cue words, who calls the cuts, and what happens if something breaks (the Panic button puts up a standby screen and mutes).

Questions

Can a director ruin my stream?

They can cut to the wrong camera, but they cannot go live, stop the stream or see stream keys, and the host can always override.

Is the director’s view delayed?

They see a small preview and the live state; for cutting they should watch the real stream or the monitor view.

Want all of this in one app?

Streamdzy is a free streaming and recording app for Windows: several cameras, your phone as a camera, going live to many places at once, and recording first so a bad connection never costs you the show.
