Reverb vs Echo
Updated October 2026
Echo is a distinct repeat of a sound after a short delay. Reverb is a dense wash of reflections that blends into a room. Both come from sound bouncing off hard surfaces, and each is treated differently.
Echo is a single or a few repeats of a sound, separated by a delay you can hear. A large hall with a hard wall far away gives echo.
Reverb is the dense mass of reflections that follows a sound in a room. It is smooth and continuous, and it makes a voice sound far away or hollow.
Soft furnishings reduce both at the source. In a file, a de-reverb tool reduces reverb, and an echo can sometimes be reduced with careful editing. The echo guide covers the steps.
A soft room reduces both echo and reverb at the source. Tunedzy can reduce some of what remains.
Not for music. For speech, too much makes a voice distant.
A hard room and speakers. Use headphones and a soft room.
It can reduce it. Removing all of it can change the voice.
